The academic excellence of Dr Zhang Xinpeng, assistant
professor of IEAS, is recently recognized at both the national and provincial
level in China. On 12 June 2016, the Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science of
Zhejiang Province (㽭ʡѧѧչ滮С) granted approval for Dr Zhangs research proposal The Circulation and
Influence of Tradtional Chinese Childrens Primers in East Asia (йͳͯɶڶǵӰо)
as a Zhijiang Youth Project (֮)
at the provincial level.
Each year, the National
Social Science Foundation of China offers a number of merit-based awards to distinguished academic
researchers and considers outstanding proposals that address significant
academic issues at the national level. Dr Zhang Xinpengs proposed research
project, titled The Study and Sorting of Childrens Primers Excavated at
Dunhuang and Turpan (ػ³ͯо), is
also formally endorsed by the National Social Science Foundation of China on 17
June 2016 as a national project.
Dr Zhang Xinpeng of IEAS is particularly interested in
the academic research on frescoes and art of Dunhuang and Turpan. His projects
will not only advance understanding of the frescoes and art in this world-renowned
area but also traditional Chinese childrens primers. Dr Zhang now combines his
academic interest and excellence with the dedication to the advancement of
understanding East Asia culturally. Dr Zhangs cutting-edge research projects explore
how a seemingly small episode of childrens primers in Chinese history helps
elucidate the cultural influence of China in East Asia.
